Home made dry ginger ale

Flask of dry ginger ale.

Ginger decoction

Ingredients

  • 100ml water.
  • 50g whole root ginger, grated. Keep the skin on, it will make it more gingery.
  • 1 whole clove.

Soda water

Ingredients

  • 1.5l chilled carbonated water.

Directions

  1. Make the ginger decoction.
    1. Puree ginger with 50ml of the water.
    2. Add the remaining 50ml and pour into 500ml microwavable jug.
    3. Add clove.
    4. Heat at 1000W until boiling, usually 2 minutes 20 seconds, stirring occassionally.
    5. Microwave for 3½ minutes at 660W - stir every minute or so.
    6. Steep for 10 minutes.
    7. Strain out the bits to leave the decoction, a tea strainer works well for this or a coffee filter.
  2. Add 20ml decoction to a 330ml glass then add the chilled carbonated water.

Best used immediately after the decoction is made.
