Ham and veg
Ingredients
- 0.9 - 1.5kg Unsmoked gammon joint (the bigger the ham, the longer it will take to cook).
- 1 onion (peeled and cut into two).
- 1 carrot (roughly chopped).
- 1 celery stalk (roughly chopped).
- 2 bay leaves.
- 10 peppercorns.
- Whole cloves.
Glaze
Ingredients
- 30ml runny honey.
- 30ml English mustard.
- 10 or so cloves.
Directions
- Place Ham and Veg ingredients in a large casserole, ensuring the ham is on the bottom of the dish.
- Work out the second stage cooking time at 6 minutes per 450g.
- Put dish in the microwave and set the first stage at 1000W for 15 minutes.
- Programme the second time, for a 1.45kg ham, that will be on medium power (650W) for 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, mix the honey and mustard.
- When the 2nd stage of cooking has completed, drain the dish and let the ham cool for 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to Convection at 180°C and Grill 1.
- Then score the ham, and insert a clove into each crossing.
- Brush on half the glaze.
- Return to oven for 15 minutes, ensuring the rest of the glaze is added about halfway through.
- Rest for 5 minutes.
Serve with roast potatoes and green veg.
NB total time taken is 1 hour 5 minutes.
