When I first bought a microwave my dad said to me, that's how to cook fish. Bit of water and the fish steams perfectly - the trick is not to over do the cooking. I use a microwave fish kettle to create the steam bath but cling film over a plate works if you don't have one.

Microwave steamed trout

Ingredients

  • A whole trout per person.
  • 30ml water or 15ml water and 15ml lemon juice

Directions

  1. Put water into kettle or onto plate.
  2. If using the kettle, put in separator
  3. Lay fish down and then cover with the lid or the cling film
  4. Microwave on high for 2.5 minutes (2 minutes 30 seconds) each fish. If doing more than one, arrange head to tail.

Serve with new potatoes, peas and horse raddish sauce. A delicious treat for one person.

If doing salmon steaks or other fish, think 500g of meat = 2.5 minutes in the microwave.
