Tenacious is a word that has been used to describe me.
Being diagnosed diabetic before I started school in 1977, expectations were not particularly high. And given the interesting events of being type 1 diabetic as a teenager, my apparent lack of energy and poor exam results (given my IQ), I was not put into some of the extracurricular projects I might have been.
(How do I know this, well my son has a similar intelligence to me and had so many doors opened for him).
My one complication in pregnancy was not a consequence of the type 1. It did mean I only had the one child.
Yet, I managed to get my joint honours in mathematics and computer science (upper second), and hold down a job, buy a house, and raise a son.
I am approaching my 50th diaversary with little evidence I have used insulin for so long. I may be one of the 'Golden Years Cohort' who manage to live a normal life expectancy despite all the joys of living with type 1, that at times that make life more than interesting.
